Introducing the new WHMCS Developer Portal

We are pleased to announce the launch of our new Developer Documentation Site: https://developers.whmcs.com/ In recent months we've been working hard to provide a better experience for developers and today sees the latest in a series of steps towards that aim. The customisability and extensibility of the WHMCS platform is a fundamental part of what we do and the new Developer Documentation Site has been created to make it easier for developers to find help and resources relating to working with templates, hooks, modules, the API and more. In addition to a fresh new look, updated documentation, more code samples and easier navigation, the new Developer Portal benefits from automatic generation of both Hook and API documentation with more detailed information than ever before and always up-to-date. What's more, the content for the Developer Portal is hosted on Github and we want the community to get involved. We welcome you to submit issues and pull...

PHPMailer Security Advisory

Exploit type: Remote Code Execution in third-party PHPMailer library CVE Numbers: CVE-2016-10033 and CVE-2016-10045 Description All versions of the third-party PHPMailer library distributed with WHMCS are vulnerable to a remote code execution vulnerability. This is patched in PHPMailer 5.2.20. At this time we do not believe the deficiency in PHPMailer is exposed in WHMCS due to our own validation of user input. Furthermore, the vulnerability requires being able to pass user input unfiltered to a message's "from" address, which in WHMCS is only defined within the admin configuration and only accessible to a trusted admin user. Irrespective of the known protections in the WHMCS product, this CVE represents a serious issue for PHPMailer. Therefore to mitigate any undiscovered risk or risk to 3rd party extensions using PHPMailer directly, we are releasing updates for all versions of WHMCS in active and long term support to provide the latest PHPMailer library version 5.2.21. Releases Upgrade to one of the...

Boost your margins with Premium Domains in WHMCS 7.1

Premium domains are sought-after domain names with short, common or desirable words. They provide a stronger and more memorable web address for a premium price and present a great opportunity for web hosting companies to increase revenue from domain name sales. With the majority of short and desirable names already taken among the world's leading TLD extensions, Premium Domains allow businesses to get names with better and more memorable brands, and a more memorable name helps drive more traffic to their website. Why you should offer premium domain names What is a premium domain name? Premium domain names are brand new domain names available for purchase directly from the registry at a higher than normal price. Some have prices just slightly higher than the standard version of the TLD, while some cost significantly more. How does it work WHMCS 7.1 adds support for selling Premium Domains to WHMCS natively, with support for our two most...

ICANN's New Transfer Policy: What you need to know

ICANN's New Transfer Policy comes into effect from the beginning of next month setting out new rules regarding changing or updating a domain name's registrant contact information. In this blog article, we take a look at what this means for WHMCS users. What is the New Transfer Policy? The Transfer Policy, formerly known as "Inter-Registrar Transfer Policy" or IRTP, sets out how domain transfers should be handled. Up until now, this policy only covered domain transfers between registrars. From December 1st, this will also cover the process of changing ownership of a domain from one registrant to another. What is the impact of this change? What this means is that when a registrant performs an update to the registered name, organisation or email address for any gTLD (non-country code) domain they own, a Change of Registrant process will be triggered. This process involves an approval email sent to both the New and Prior Registrant. The changes...
